Your purchase of our distance learning courses include:

·          An Introductory DVD session explaining how to use these materials at home to best use as your distance learning tool.

·          DVD lease of classroom sessions taught by Mr. John Kinzer, a professional Christian teacher with more than 20 years of classroom teaching experience.

·          Complete set of worksheets for your student to help build a personal notebook for these literary classics.

·          Complete set of all quizzes and tests for the unit.

·          Writing assignments and vocabulary words drawn from the reading.

·          Parent and student support via phone and email (the graded option).

·          The text in a modern edition for your student. 

Grading:  You may choose from two grading options. 1) all assignments, quizzes and tests graded by the parent or 2) sending the assignments to RGES where our staff will grade and return assignments to the student for correction; parent/student support included with this option.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein

               Our literature unit study on The Hobbit focuses on the main themes, with particular attention to Bilbo’s character change from a homebody hobbit to one who is  loyal and courageous.  Mr. Kinzer pulls out the Christian themes in the book.  Included is information on the life of J.R.R. Tolkein.  The unit includes nine DVD lessons with vocabulary words for each lesson, two writing assignments, a weekly quiz and final exam.

Henry IV Part One by William Shakespeare

               Our literature unit study on Henry IV Part One focuses on pulling out the Christian themes found in Shakespeare.  The students learn about the funny and tragic character who is Falstaff, and Prince Hal’s character change from a foolish young man to one who becomes a strong leader.  Included is information on the life and times of William Shakespeare and The Globe Theater.  The unit is approximately 13 weeks long, with DVD and vocabulary words each lesson.  There are two writing assignments, quizzes weekly and a final exam.  The student is expected to become familiar with quotations from the book. 

Men of Iron by Howard Pyle

               Men of Iron takes place in the Middle Ages and is a story of knights and fair ladies.  The main character, Myles Falworth, becomes a brave young knight who wins back his family’s honor.  There are weekly vocabulary assignments and quizzes.  There are two writing assignments and a final exam.  *Expected release:  Spring 2008. 

Latin/Greek Roots

               The Latin/Greek roots unit introduces a variety of Latin and Greek roots.  The student learns the spelling and definition of the root and examples of its use.  This unit comprises 4 quarters.  Each quarter is approximately nine weeks in length and includes a 20 minute weekly DVD lesson, a quiz and a final test.   The quarters can be purchased individually or as a full year.  They make a wonderful addition to any of our literature units or your own grammar curriculum.  *Expected release:  Spring 2008.
